The CFC is a research institute on citizenship law, human rights and migration policy in the coming age of artificial intelligence, transhumanism, robotics, and space exploration. The CFC imagines how a future shaped by radical, technological change will impact citizenship, migration and human rights. Over the course of human history, citizenship has evolved from an utopian ideal to the foundation of our laws and societies. Cutting-edge technologies like killer drones, social media bias and self-driving cars are already bringing near term challenges to our legal systems and governments.

The CFC takes a long-term view, exploring the more speculative impact of emerging technologies like AI, robots, and space exploration on citizenship law, migration and human rights. Our research interests include robot rights, AI jurisdiction and liability for harm, conflict of laws and international law in the emerging world of smart robots, the intersection of space law with citizenship and migration, and more. These long-term issues are at the heart of the CFC’s mission to shape the future of citizenship law in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
